MassMutual Foundation brings FutureSmart Challenge to Washington, D.C.
Washington, DC, January 2020 – The MassMutual Foundation’s FutureSmart Challenge and the Washington Wizards brought together middle school students from Greater Washington schools to talk financial education.
The MassMutual Foundation’s FutureSmart Challenge is a national program that provides financial education to middle school students and offers them the opportunity to learn skills needed to make sound choices for their personal financial futures. At this event, students participated in an educational seminar hosted by award-winning actor and best-selling author Hill Harper and learned about the importance of smart money management, why a higher education is essential to their financial success, and the difference between “smart money” and “dumb money.”
Students also heard from NBA legend Gheorghe Mureșan (“Big George”) who shared his opinions on education, careers and finances. The 202 Crew Dunk Team and the Wizards Dance Team also provided engaging entertainment. The FutureSmart Challenge seminar will be combined with FutureSmart Digital financial education curriculum in the classroom during the school year.
“MassMutual Capitol District is proud to work with the MassMutual Foundation to expand financial education in our community through the FutureSmart Challenge,” said Joe Cantanucci, Managing Partner. “It’s important that our young future leaders feel empowered to take positive steps toward a successful career and financial security for themselves, their families and their communities.”
Washington is the first stop on the 2020 multi-city tour of MassMutual Foundation’s FutureSmart Challenge. Since 2014, more than 1.7 million students have benefited from the FutureSmart program through the Challenges and FutureSmart digital program, an online education program for students delivered by EVERFI in schools across the U.S. Students can also extend the lessons they learn at the Challenges and in the classroom through the free FutureSmart app. The FutureSmart program aims to impact the financial literacy of two million students by 2020.
